About me

Why I made the Atlas of Myths

My name is Ciro Simone Irmici and I build websites, apps and games. The Atlas of Myths was born from a simple gap: there was no place where you could explore, on a map, the legends of every Italian region together with the great myths of the world, in a few clear lines with the sources in plain sight.

I built it with artificial intelligence and I check every card and every source myself. I am not a scholar of mythology: I tell these legends with respect, I always say where they come from and, when a story cannot be confirmed by at least two reliable sources, I leave it out.

Italian regional legends are a treasure that is slowly being lost: many were told in cowsheds on winter evenings, and today mostly grandparents remember them. That is why the English version starts with them. If you know a legend from your town, write to me: the atlas grows that way too.

To see how we choose stories and sources, read how we tell myths.
